I’m sure you already know the Windows recycle bin doesn’t capture all deleted files. The most common way for deleted files to bypass the recycle bin is to be deleted over a Windows network. On Windows networks, files & folders that are made accessible to other users are called a “share”. When users delete shared files from a file server, the deleted files don’t go into the recycle bin on either the server or the user’s desktop. When this happens, the file is really gone. If later you realized that you actually need the deleted file, the only way to get it back would be to ask IT staff to restore it from backup tapes. The workload of IT staff will determine how long the user must wait for the lost file.
