06.159.2012 - Logitech Expects Restructuring Charges of Approximately $35 Million

View Logitech-Press related news. NEWARK, Calif. — June 7, 2012 and MORGES, Switzerland, June 8, 2012 — Logitech International (SIX: LOGN) (Nasdaq: LOGI) today announced that it expects to record pre-tax charges in the current fiscal year of approximately $35 million associated with the company’s previously announced restructuring. The company is undertaking this restructuring to simplify the organization, to better align costs with its current business and to free up resources to pursue its growth opportunities. The restructuring is expected to yield approximately a net $80 million reduction in annual operating costs. The reduction will begin to benefit the company in the second half of Fiscal Year 2013 with the full savings expected to be achieved in Fiscal Year 2014. Approximately $32 million of the restructuring charges are expected to be recorded in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2013, ending June 30, 2012. The largest component of the restructuring charge will be cash charges related to a workforce reduction. The company is eliminating approximately 450 positions, or 13 percent of its worldwide non-direct-labor workforce. Logitech expects that reduced personnel-related costs will represent an estimated 60 percent of the approximately $80 million savings in annual operating costs. “As we announced in April, this organizational streamlining, along with our strategy to deliver fewer but more compelling products, should position Logitech for renewed growth and profitability,” said Bracken Darrell, Logitech president. “While we are saddened by the departure of many colleagues, the restructuring is necessary for our future success.” Additional information on the restructuring charges is provided in the Current Report on Form 8-K being filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on June 8, 2012 and made available on Logitech’s website at http://ir.logitech.com. About Logitech Logitech is a world leader in products that connect people to the digital experiences they care about. 06.159.2012 - Max & Future Empowered With Windows Intune

View Microsoft-Press related news.

REDMOND, Wash. — June 7, 2012 — In need of a solution to better manage the 80 computers at its headquarters, Hungarian event management and marketing company Max & Future has deployed Windows Intune, Microsoft’s cloud-based management system. As a result, the company saw an immediate increase in security and a marked decrease in support calls as well as hardware and licensing costs.

“We didn’t want computers malfunctioning onsite. This could cause long registration queues and reflect poorly on our company,” said Eszter Ory, general manager at Max & Future. “Windows Intune delivers huge business benefits. It saves us money, simplifies PC management, and enables staff to deliver optimal services at event sites, call centers and in the office.”

Since deployment, Max & Future has reduced IT costs thanks to the integrated PC management, malware protection and remote assistance capabilities of Windows Intune. The company also now spends less time ensuring that all employees are using updated computers and has noticed an improvement in reliability.

“I spent 30 percent of my time performing manual computer management tasks, including traveling to call centers and event sites to provide support for the 15 employees who work routinely in the field,” said László Bártfai, IT manager at Max & Future. “I could never be sure that all the computers were up to date.”

Ory and Bártfai were first introduced to Windows Intune at a Microsoft event that Max & Future produced. In November 2011, Max & Future remotely deployed Windows Intune to all 80 computers using Active Directory Domain Services and Group Policy, two integral features of Windows Server 2008. The ease of deployment impressed the company’s managers.

With the Microsoft solution, Max & Future is able to achieve the following:

• Reduced IT costs. Max & Future used Windows Intune capabilities, such as PC management, malware protection and remote assistance, to retire redundant third-party tools, repurpose hardware and reduce costs.

• Simplified PC management. Max & Future needs less time to ensure that all employees are using updated computers with malware protection.

• Increased PC reliability. Windows Intune provides a very efficient malware detection engine, so computers are increasingly secure and subsequently more reliable. Support calls are down from three or four per day to none. With more reliable computers and fewer interruptions, employees are able to get more work done.

• Improved inventory boosts security. Previously, creating and monitoring software and hardware inventory required a week to complete. Now that information is available instantly in the administration console.

“Seeing Windows Intune in action impressed me,” Bártfai said. “It’s easy to use and has the software update, endpoint protection and remote assistance capabilities we need without infrastructure. It was perfect for Max & Future.”

06.159.2012 - Federal Aviation Administration Chooses Microsoft Office 365 for Email and Collaboration in the Cloud

View Microsoft-Press related news.

REDMOND, W ash. June 7 , 201 2 In its effort to empower personnel to work more efficiently and collaboratively, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has chosen to deploy a CSC cloud productivity solution based on Microsoft Office 365, encompassing email messaging, calendaring, instant messaging and webconferencing. As the contract prime, Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC) will lead the cloud implementation, which will provide 60,000 FAA employees and 20,000 DOT employees with access to email, instant messaging, calendaring and webconferencing tools with robust security from virtually any device.

The FAA’s decision to empower greater employee productivity through cloud computing supports the agency’s broader NextGen initiative, designed to make air travel more convenient and dependable for citizens. The FAA joins a host of prominent government agencies that have made the decision to move to the cloud, including federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Broadcasting Board of Governors; the states of California, Nebraska and Minnesota; and the cities of New York and San Francisco.

“The FAA’s mission is essential to how our nation functions, and the agency’s decision to implement Office 365 validates our approach to enterprise security, privacy and compliance in the cloud,” said Curt Kolcun, vice president of U.S. Public Sector at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft has supported government agencies such as the FAA for nearly 30 years, and as a committed partner we’ll continue to innovate in ways that help our public-sector customers improve efficiency and reduce operating costs while delivering better citizen services.”

“By utilizing Microsoft Office 365, CSC’s ‘as a service’ expertise will help lead the FAA’s efforts to address the ‘cloud-first’ policy put forth by the Office of Management and Budget,” said Leif Ulstup, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector Federal Consulting Practice. “We have worked closely with the FAA for four decades and are committed to delivering a secure, cost-effective and flexible enterprisewide cloud solution in support of the agency’s mission to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world.”

06.158.2012 - MS12-034 - Critical : Combined Security Update for Microsoft Office, Windows, .NET Framework, and Silverlight (2681578) - Version: 1.3

View Microsoft related news. Severity Rating: Critical
Revision Note: V1.3 (June 6, 2012): Added an entry to the update FAQ to explain why systems with non-affected versions of Microsoft Visio Viewer 2010 will be offered security update KB2589337.
Summary: This security update resolves three publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and seven privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, the Microsoft .NET Framework, and Microsoft Silverlight. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or visits a malicious webpage that embeds TrueType font files. An attacker would have no way to force users to visit a malicious website. Instead, an attacker would have to convince users to visit the website, typically by getting them to click a link in an email message or Instant Messenger message that takes them to the attacker's website.

06.158.2012 - SpyBot Detection Updates: 2012-06-06

View Spybot related news. Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you have not intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you do not see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there is no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Presented by Microsoft Partners in Learning, the Partners in Learning U.S. Forum is an annual event that honors leading educators who enhance student success through the innovative use of technology in the classroom. Teachers who apply to attend are evaluated based on how their projects use technology to inspire students to think critically, collaborate and extend their learning beyond the classroom.

The event presents a unique opportunity for educators to share teaching best practices with peers from across the country, participate in hands-on learning sessions with Microsoft’s latest technologies and present their projects to a panel of judges. A select number of educators will win the opportunity to represent the U.S. at the Partners in Learning Global Forum in Athens, Greece, this November, where they will compete with teachers from around the world and gain global recognition. Last year, more than 250,000 applicants from more than 70 countries competed at national and regional events across the world to qualify for the worldwide competition.

BrainPOP, which creates award-winning animated, curriculum-based content to engage students, is the forum’s partnering sponsor. More information on the finalists and the educators’ classroom project selected to attend the Partners in Learning U.S. Forum is available on the Microsoft TeachTec blog. Activity and conversation about the forum can be followed on Twitter @Teachtec and at hashtag #pilus, as well as the Partners in Learning Facebook page.

(Nasdaq “MSFT”) today announced they have completed the formation of Caradigm™, a 50-50 joint venture aimed at enabling health systems and professionals to use real-time, organization-wide intelligence to improve healthcare quality and the patient experience.

Caradigm will develop and market an open healthcare intelligence platform and collaborative clinical applications focused on enabling better population health management to improve outcomes and the economics of health and wellness. Plans for the joint venture were first announced on Dec. 7, 2011, and the final agreement was completed on June 1, 2012.

The Caradigm board of directors and leadership team, announced in February, is composed of executives from both parent companies. Caradigm will be led by CEO Michael Simpson, who joins the company from GE Healthcare. In addition, the companies today announced the appointment of Lauren Salata as chief financial officer and Michael Willingham as quality assurance and regulatory affairs executive for Caradigm. Willingham joins Caradigm from Philips Healthcare in Bothell, Wash., where he served as senior director of quality and regulatory affairs.

“The combination of people and technology from GE Healthcare and Microsoft will allow us to drive the dramatic change that is needed in healthcare,” Simpson said. “By forming Caradigm, we can offer innovative healthcare solutions, including an open platform and tools that enable software developers around the world to address the complexities of population health today.”

Caradigm will be located at City Center Bellevue in Bellevue, Wash., with significant presence in Salt Lake City, Utah; Andover, Mass.; Chevy Chase, Md.; and other cities around the world.
